If you fancy spending the night, somewhere unusual, then visit the Das Park Hotel

A serious contender for the world’s strangest hotel. Situated in the green heart of Linz, Austria, Das Park Hotel is a minimalistic hotel constructed from repurposed, incredibly robust drain pipes. This unique hotel has transformed standard concrete sewer pipes into hotel rooms.  Designed by Andreas Strauss, the hotel offers room with minimum space volume for maximum comfort. The concept was to provide easy access sleeping a unit for friends, students or artists with smaller budgets. The external simplicity surrounds an unexpectedly comfortable interior. The hotel “rooms” are full of home comforts including double bed, woolly blanket and mattress, light, storage, hut sleeping bags, and the hotel complex features toilets, showers, mini bar, full headroom, cafeteria etc. The tubes have received wall paintings by the local artist Thomas Latzel Ochoa to make them seem a little more user friendly. Each tube weighs 9,5 tonnes – so although some might be tempted to rock or vandalise them, they are incredibly robust and need little maintenance.

Your hotel “room” is secured by a security key code, to ensure that all of your luggage is safe whilst you visit the local attractions. There’s even a power connection (220 V) for your electrical appliances and a plug for Internet connection. The hotel is open between May and October. Rooms price: between 7 and 20 €
