Toyota Municipal Museum of Art
This is an art museum sited at the top of a hill overlooking industrial Toyota City, in central Japan. The city – home of the popular automobile company is known as a “city of industry and cultural communication”. Housed in modern building constructed by Yoshio Taniguchi, who also renovated the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in New York City, the museum displays collection and permanently exhibits of modern and contemporary art, designs and crafts, both domestic and internationally.
Opened in November 1995, Toyota Municipal Museum of Art features works by Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Edvard Munch, and others. The museum’s exhibition rooms, which emphasize exhibitions and their viewing, are designed with special lighting. In a bright, simple, and contemplative space, the museum offers the best environment for visitors to enjoy art. Along with its permanent exhibition, the museum holds exciting and meaningful special exhibitions four times a year.
