Astronomy and space science

Located on the Tsim Sha Tsui waterfront, The Hong Kong Space Museum is one of the most famous landmarks in Hong Kong. Easily recognized by its unique egg-shaped dome building, it is the only planetarium in the city, built to popularize astronomy and space science. Construction began in 1977 and was completed in 1980. Covering an area of 8,000 square meters, it managed by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department of the Hong Kong Government.

Hong Kong Space Museum has two thematic exhibition halls: the Hall of Space Science and the Hall of Astronomy on the ground and first floors respectively. The museum comprises an east and a west wing. The east wing located under the dome is the planetarium’s core, housing the Hall of Space Science, the Space Theatre, workshops and offices. The west wing houses the Hall of Astronomy, the Lecture Hall, the astronomy book store, gift shop and offices.

The Hong Kong Space Museum has a collection of meteorites and organizes extension activities that enrich the lives of both children and adults. The Hong Kong Space Museum also offers Omnimax and sky shows and astronomy exhibits. It is a great place for the whole family to visit.  The Space Museum includes a new digital planetarium projector and seats installed with a multi-language and interactive system. There is also a mockup of the nose and cockpit section of the Space Shuttle orbiter. The exhibits, predominantly interactive, enable visitors to learn through a series of entertaining and educational experiences.
