ARMA

Located in Ubud on Bali, Indonesia, the Agung Rai Museum of Art was officially opened by the Indonesian Minister for Education and Culture on 9 June 1996. Set in four acres of beautifully landscape grounds, ARMA is the living center for the visual and performing arts in Ubud. It houses a remarkable private collection of works by Balinese, Javanese and foreign artists. Visitors will enjoy and marvel at the painting exhibits placed either permanently or alternately substituted.

Constructed of a series of building with traditional Balinese style, the museum is used local materials. The two main buildings, Bale Daja and Bale Dauh settled admirably in the landscaped gardens, ponds and fountains and grand view of rice paddyfield as the backdrop. The visitor has opportunities to enjoy the permanent collection of paintings, special temporary exhibitions, theatre performances, dance, music, and painting classes,bookshop, library and reading room, cultural workshops, seminars and training programmes.
There is an exhibition of an excellent variety of paintings. The paintings range from traditional to contemporary including the following: Classical Kamasan painting on tree bark, Masterpieces by Batuan artist of the 1930′s and 1940′s, The only work to be seen on the island of Bali by the 19th century Javanese artist Raden Saleh Syarif Bustaman and German painter Walter Spies, Works by Balinese masters and more. The Gallery encourages members of the local community to come and learn the techniques of painting, and an informal school of painting for students of all ages is based there.
