MALBA

Malba Museum or Latinamerican Museum of Art is one of the most impressive museums in Buenos Aires and throughout Latin America. Created in 2001 by Argentine businessman Eduardo Constantini, the museum displays artworks of Latin American art from the early 20th century to the present day. Its purpose is to collect, preserve and expand its selection of works from modern artists from across Latin America. The museum housed an ultra-modern glass on steel building designed by renowned Argentine architectural firm – AFT Architects.

The modern interior makes the permanent exhibition deceptively small in an attractive gallery space of wood floors and muted lighting that allows visitors to muse over trends and artistic influences in Latin American culture. Within its collection are more than 200 artworks from great and renowned Latin-American artists such as a famous self-portrait by Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, Antonio Berni, Fernando Botero, Diego Rivera, Guillermo Kuitca, Antonio Segui, Marta Minujin, between others. Another of the artworks that can be viewed in the museum is the peculiar artwork called “Volume” created by Sergio Avello, it is located on the front of the museum and its purpose is to measure traffic noise level on Av. Figueroa Alcorta.

The museum welcomes over a million visitors annually. It has spaces for temporary exhibits, an outdoor sculpture balcony, gift shop, library and a smart café. Admission fee: Adults: $22. Opening hours: Thursday through Monday and holidays from 12:00 to 20:00; Wednesday till 21:00. Tuesday closed.
